My work history is certainly varied, with roles from tending vineyards to being on the Executive of a huge Government organisation. I enjoyed many years in the music industry, both here in New Zealand and abroad, playing in bands, as a session musician, teaching percussion and vocal coaching as well as managing bands, engineering in recording studios and producing music as a freelance sound engineer.
I returned to New Zealand with my family in 1998 and, while looking for a new home, was approached by a franchise owner of the Leaders Group, and my Real Estate Sales career began.
In my first year, based in Waikanae, on the Kapiti Coast, (in competition with 68 other established agents) I was personally responsible for 12% of all sales completed, and won the Leaders Nationwide Rookie of the Year award and the Leaders region Salesperson of the year award, and was a finalist in the REINZ National awards as well.
Over the next 48 months I won the monthly top listings award 39 times, Top Seller award 41 times, as well as community awards for charity fundraising and area promotion.
I then moved into the Real Estate Training arena, firstly assisting and mentoring upcoming agents. In 2011 I spent a little time selling Real Estate under another well-known international brand based in Queenstown lakes and Central Otago regions, where I met my amazing wife Elayne.
After returning to Wellington in late 2012 I joined with the experimental Online Real Estate Company, 200 Square, appraising, listing and selling unseen properties online while helping develop the brand across the country.
Following a chance meeting with Joseph Lupi (Owner Century 21 Wellington region) and John Willcox (Century 21 Manager) in late 2015 I decided it was time to add colour to my life and donned the famed Gold Jacket…

I am certain many of David Gentry's sales go like clockwork, well ours didn't, yet we came out with an amazing result. We have realised that's when you NEED someone like David on your side!
David has a particular set of skills. Other agents used conventional pricing methods, IE Sales Stats. We considered ourselves to be realistic with our pricing and saw relief in other agents eyes. David gave us a new perspective. He did not market the company, he marketed our house, his belief in the price he set was unwavering (even when we had doubts). He acknowledged when things were tougher, but whenever questioned he seemed to be 2 steps ahead of every scenario, and responded to our queries immediately.
I thought Lightening had struck when we got our first offer, but then along came a back up offer that exceeded the original one, all the result of background work we didn't realise was even happening.
David told me he is selective of his clients and houses he takes on - If you can, secure David as your agent!!!
Oh, and our end result? where others had appraised us at 5-10% over GV David sold our home at 22% over the current valuation!!!

Earlier in the year when we were moving to the South Island, we worked with David to sell both our daughters home and our family home. Given the great experience we had at that time, it was a no brainer that we engage him to sell a rental property for us in Aotea.
We listed on Thursday, had the first open home on Sunday, had a conditional offer on Thursday and went unconditional the following Tuesday…
all within 2 weeks!
David was respectful of our tenants and worked closely with them to ensure as little disruption to their daily lives as possible… something very important when you are taking their home away from them and how difficult they can make it if they so wish!

After a failed and very expensive Auction campaign with another company I approached David Gentry at an open home. He looked over both my home & the past marketing campaign, then we talked through some ideas on my expectations and David suggested no price marketing.
Three weeks, and 45 groups later, on the deadline closing, David presented 7 Offers on my home, all above the appraised price. My home was unconditionally sold that evening!

I recently contacted 3 agencies to come an appraise my 2 bedroom joined townhouse located near HT power lines. The first two companies both made a big deal out of the power lines, while David acknowledged them but focused on the property itself. The first 2 appraisals were well below my expectation and below the new GV as well, and both made excuses due to the power lines, Davids appraisal was nothing but positive. I decided on a deadline sale as David suggested and, after less than 2 weeks on the market I had received 3 offers, all well over the GV, ending with a unconditional sale even ABOVE the level David appraised my home at.
